About me
Dr. Amy Herrman serves as the Career Education Special Needs Planner (CESNP) for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from William Woods University and a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri–Columbia. With more than thirty years of experience in education, Dr. Herrman has excelled as a teacher, principal, and director. After retiring as Director of Rolla Technical Institute/Center, she now dedicates her expertise to advancing equitable and inclusive Career and Technical Education (CTE) across Missouri.In her statewide role, Dr. Herrman is a key resource for DESE, administrators, special education professionals, and CTE instructors. She provides targeted professional development on appropriate CTE placement, instructional accommodations, and effective strategies to support students with disabilities and other special populations. Her work emphasizes access, high expectations, and successful postsecondary outcomes for every learner.
Dr. Herrman’s leadership and impact have been recognized through numerous honors, including Missouri HOSA Administrator of the Year (2021) and South Central MASSP District Assistant Principal of the Year (2015). She is also a multi-year National Honor Society Most Influential Educator recipient, and a past recipient of a variety of quality teaching awards.A passionate advocate for marginalized students, Dr. Herrman actively contributes to statewide planning initiatives, supports legislative efforts, and develops tools and guidance that strengthen instructional practice and expand opportunities for all learners. She has presented at national conferences including Best Practices and Innovations in CTE, DCDT International Conference, and National CASE, as well as numerous state conferences and district-level professional development events.
Dr. Herrman remains deeply committed to ensuring that every student—regardless of background, label, or barrier—is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to thrive in their future education, career, and life.
